Earth Trust Marks Day One of the Big Give Christmas Challenge

EarthTrust is thrilled to announce the Big Give Christmas Challenge, launching today with the Nature for Neighbourhoods appeal. Running from 3rd to 10th December, the appeal offers donors a unique opportunity: every donation made during this period will be doubled, thanks to match funding partners. This means each contribution has the potential to create twice the impact.

The funds raised will support Earth Trust’s mission to connect more people with nature and create thriving, accessible green spaces in local communities. These efforts address a pressing issue: one in three people in the UK currently lack access to good-quality green spaces nearby.

With the support of its members and dedicated volunteers, Earth Trust looks after some of Oxfordshire’s most cherished and biodiverse landscapes. The organisation manages these spaces to protect the land, support biodiversity, and ensure the community can enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits they offer.

The work is rooted in sustainable practices, from creating habitats for at-risk farmland bird species to restoring ponds and riverside inlets to support aquatic ecosystems. Every day, Earth Trust employs nature-based solutions to address major environmental challenges and shares these practices to inspire others.

With seven local community reserves, alongside the iconic Wittenham Clumps, Earth Trust invites everyone to explore and connect with the nature on their doorstep.

If you’re looking for inspiration, here are just a few of the beautiful reserves in Earth Trust’s care:

  • Mowbray Fields (Didcot): A former restoration project, this vibrant wildflower meadow is home to ponds, marshlands, and woodland, offering a tranquil escape.
  • Thrupp Lake (Abingdon): Once an industrial gravel pit, Thrupp Lake is now a wildlife haven with a 1-mile circular walk, perfect for spotting waterfowl, dragonflies, and marsh orchids.
  • Wallingford Castle Meadows: A site steeped in history, its meadows feature snowdrops, celandines, and, in spring, stunning bluebells and snake’s head fritillaries.
