Wildwood Trust is pleased to announce the launch of its inspiring Conservation Course Programme for 2025. This season, participants can deepen their understanding of wildlife conservation, gain hands-on experience, and play an active role in the preservation of Britain’s native species and habitats.
The Trust’s expert-led courses will cater to a range of interests, from wildlife interpretation to hands-on surveying. Whether you are passionate about amphibians, birds, or mammals, Wildwood offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to important conservation efforts.
Upcoming Courses:
Wildlife Interpretation – Engaging Visitors with Conservation – Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd January. This online course will explore best practices for engaging the public in wildlife and conservation efforts. Ideal for those working in nature reserves, zoos, parks, or rewilding projects, this course will cover a range of media, from traditional signage to new technologies like QR codes and mobile apps.
Harvest Mouse Ecology and Surveying – Saturday 15th February. In partnership with Kent Mammal Group, this course provides a comprehensive overview of harvest mouse ecology and surveying techniques. Participants will gain practical experience in the field, examining nests and surveying for these elusive creatures in the South East.
Introduction to Amphibian Ecology and Surveying – Saturday 1st March. In collaboration with Kent Reptile and Amphibian Group, this course offers an introduction to the identification and ecology of Kent’s frogs, toads, and newts. The course will cover pond habitats, survey methods, and conclude with a torchlight survey of local amphibian populations.
Introduction to Birdsong – Tuesday 1st April. This course will teach participants how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Learn how birds produce their wide variety of sounds and gain practical tips for identifying species by ear.
Reptile Ecology and Surveying – Saturday 3rd May. In partnership with Kent Reptile and Amphibian Group, this course focuses on the identification, ecology, and surveying techniques for native British reptiles. Participants will explore reptile habitats and engage in a field survey at a nearby monitoring site.
Course Details: – All courses are in-person unless otherwise stated. – Minimum age for all courses is 16, unless otherwise indicated. – Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. – Courses must be paid for at the time of booking and are non-refundable unless cancelled by Wildwood Trust.
